Integrating Remind101 with Moodle

To integrate the Remind101 widget in your Moodle course shell, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Remind101 account on the web.
  2. On your dashboard page (where you send out your messages and add classes), select "My widgets" from the drop-down menu in the upper right corner of the web page.
  3. Find the group on the page that you would like to add.  You can also add a widget that aggregates all of you class messages, but that might confuse students in your courses if they are receiving messages not aimed at their class.  Once you have located your group title, select and copy the HTML code in the box directly under the group name.  You should copy everything, beginning with "<script ..." and ending with "...</script>."
  4. Open the Moodle shell you wish to place your Remind101 widget into.
  5. Make sure editing is turned on for the shell, then click the "Edit summary" button for the topic where you plan to place the widget.  For this example, I plan to place my widget into Topic 0, so I am going to click the "Edit summary" button in Topic 0 as shown below.
  6. Once your Settings window opens, you need to click the "Edit HTML source" button on the text editor.  It is very important that you don't paste the Remind101 widget code into the text box that initially comes up.  The widget will only work when the HTML code is placed in the HTML editor.
  7. When the HTML window opens, move your cursor to a new line at the very bottom of the window, then paste (Ctrl + v on the keyboard) the widget code you copied from Remind101's website.  After it is pasted in, click the "Update" button on the bottom of the HTML source editor window.
  8. After clicking "Update," you will be taken back to the settings screen.  Your widget will not show up in the editor, but it will be included in that topic.  Click "Save changes" at the bottom of your screen.
  9. You will be taken back to your main Moodle shell page for that course.  At this point, refresh your browser (F5 on your keyboard or with the Refresh icon in your browser).  Once the page reloads, you should see your Remind101 widget in the summary area of the topic you selected.
